But as all devices sometimes undergo some malfunctioning Netgear routers are no different. One of the most common issues with routers is Netgear router red light error.

Understanding Netgear router LEDs

Normally when you turn on your Netgear router the red light on router blinks for around 20 or so seconds and then turns into green or white light and stays that way for the entire time router is turned on.  However in case your router’s LED doesn’t turn into green or white light or it stays in blinking mode for a long time it will suggest that your router is facing some issues. Ø  Tips: Before beginning to troubleshoot check the power adaptors you are using. For a proper convenient access make sure you are using the Ethernet cables and the power adaptors that were provided with the router.

In case you are using any kind of surge protector device try to bypass the surge protector or connect your router to a different power source.

·         Turn off your router
·         Now turn it back on and check if the green and white lights are turning on or not.
·         You will find the reset button on back or on top of the device
·         Locate the rest button
·         Reset Netgear Extender
·         Thus your router will be restored back to the factory default settings

·     In case your broadband light red is persistent or is blinking try connecting your computer to the LAN port of the router

·         Now set your device IP address, Subnet Mask, and default gateway to static.
·         For setting your  addresses in static in case you are using a system of Windows 7, 8 or 10 follow the steps:
ü  Click start menu
ü  Open control panel
ü  Open network and sharing centre or network and internet
ü  Click to change adapter settings
ü  Now right-click on LAN or Wi-Fi options
ü  Click on properties
ü  Choose Internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
ü  Choose properties
ü  Now enter IP address, Subnet Mask, default Gateway and DNS server
ü  Click on Ok
ü  Now your computer displays the static IP address.

·         After you have successfully set your IP settings to static open command prompt
·         For doing this, in case you are using a windows system:

ü  Click start button
ü  In the search panel type cmd
ü  Press enter

·         In case of MAC:

ü  Click on Go option
ü  Go to Utilities
ü  Choose Terminal

·         Now on the command box type ping 192.168.1.1 login admin

·         Now hit enter

·         In case your system is receiving replies reinstall the firmware.

In case even after following the above given troubleshooting hacks your internet light is red on modem it is advisable that you don’t waste any further time. And seek to experts for help.
